Re: Radiator/ Electric Fan / Controller Help

My latest thought is...

Cold Case 2 row, 1.25" tube Aluminum rad
Longer fan clutch
Larger dia fan - no electric fan

I'm concerned about taxing electrical system is barely adequate for 1965, with 30 or 40 amp draw from a fan. I'm trying to do this on sort of a budget, and obviously don't want to burn the car down!

Great article. I wish I got the electric fans with the radiator I just got the radiator. I think the radiator was 7 or 800 and with the fans I think it was like 12 blades. I wanted to get them about a month or 2 ago and they wouldnt sell them to me unless I filled out this dimension sheet. I said it was not a custom radiator its a direct fit and she said after a certain date they want measurements now. Thats were it stoped for me I told her the dimensions and she still insisted that I fill out the sheet and email it in. To get the exact measurements I have to take everything apart the fan, shroud, all the seals for the shroud etc. The sheet wanted measurements of the whole thing so it would have to come out. I thought I can just order it and put it on later I didnt want to leave the car apart for weeks. So if anyone buys this setup get it all at once.

I used a champ and it sucks for hot weather driving dont waste your money. I have a flowcooler waterpump Griffin replacment rad with a flex fan and stock shroud, and 2 10" pema cools in front.

Its ok but I got stuck at a light for 4 times last summer because people just sit in there car and text and forget about driving. She got up to 225 and once I started moving it came down to 190ish. My next build I want to try the desert cooler with the 3 bypasses in it and see how that works. I read you need at least 5000 cfm for a bb mopar. My fans are 42 or 4500cfm and they slow the temp climbing they dont stop it. The radiator and hole is small so its hard to get 2 high cfm fans in there. Maybe bigger radiator 26 vs 22 not sure though.

HI Ricky
here's my application:
(1963 dodge  "440"  Hemi   Auto)

Used a Glen Ray radiator  (3 row max cooling) factory appearing including date coded tanks
c/w Hayden 4003718 Flex fan ( no clutch) and in my case a 1" Spacer
hope that helps

Hi Bill
I may be a  little late to the party
but
here is the info I sent To David ;last year :

Hi David             I
have the identical Hemi set up in my car
it began life with an alum 3 row rad and (2)
10" plastic electric fans

it was warm and progressively got warmer
200-215 for a 25 mile ride on open roads

did some searching this winter '/ spring
….  finally settled on a Glen Ray Radiator unit c/w metal
shroud and a

Hayden flex as
per Bob Schirmer's recommendation   My temp now barely
exceeds 180   (maybe 190 in traffic)

but all works to a tee and I now enjoy and
trust driving the car again

hope this helps

  Even though I've
always
  stuck with stock style
configurations when it comes to  anything to do my car,
I'm tired of being scared of  sitting in traffic, and
watching my temperature  rise.  I'm seriously thinking
about getting an  aluminum radiator and electric fan
combination (never used  one before). So far I'm
leaning towards Champion  radiators (lifetime warranty),
three core set up, and a 16  in single Spal puller fan, and
harness w/controller. The  above package is
$500 shipped.
  But I'm a little
concerned about their
  harness and as it
seems to have some light wiring  gauges.

https://www.championradiators.com/Single-Fan-Relay

  https://www.championradiators.com/Thermostat-relay-kit-instruction

  Not sure
whether I should maybe use a

"Spal" harness and controller like
  this...
  https://www.jegs.com/p/SPAL/SPAL-Electric-Fan-Wiring-Harness-Kits/2861422/10002/-1

The other issue is that the
above controllers  have a set temperature (185 on I
believe). Should i use a  programmable setup like this
instead if i want to tweak the  temp?
  https://www.speedcooling.com/wiring-kits/

  Any insight would be
appreciated.
  Thanks
  Bill
