Re: windshield wiper blades

I just grabbed some 16" blades I had in the garage (I buy them when they go on sale - brand doesn't matter much), and slid them off of the supports that attach top the arms and slid them onto the original 1964 wipers.  You really don't need to replace the arms, or the supports that hold the rubber blades to the arms - just the rubber inserts.  Any brand should work (although some 16" blades were really 15"+ and a little too short).  Best are the ones that are rubber with metal bands on each side for support, much like the 1964 originals.

If you look at the original part that holds the rubber blades, you can see that they have a little end that holds them on each end.  Just go over the one end, and ensure that either end has not bent from years of use and you will have no problems.

No need to pay $60 or more for "antique" blades whose rubber will turn hard and brittle in little time.  Who among us would trust a 40-year old "rubber" for it's original purpose?  Too much concern with "original", too little for functional.  Plus, these refills look and function the same as the high-priced originals.  Your call and your money, howewver.

I like the KISS principle.

I just replaced the wiper blades on my 64 Fury convertible with regular 16" (or maybe 15", not sure) modern blades.  Just removed the modern metal or plastic blade supports and inserted the rubber blades with metal support strips, much like the originals.  No need to replace the arms if they are good.  Make sure that the ends are able to retain the new blades...

Getting ready for trip to Mopars in the Park at Farmington, Minnysota  first part of June.  I need new wiper blades that will fit the stock wiper arms for my 64 Dodge B body. I don't have the old ones to compare.  Would appreciate knowing what I can use that would look  similar to stock.  Thanks .................................MO
