My 2c is that the '65 ignition is threaded at the key side. The circular knob on the dash unscrews, allowing the ignition
assembly to release.
I recall an old discussion where there is some concern as to how to remove the dash knob without scratching it all up.
You don't just use some vise grips, that is. Hopefully some one will recall better than I can the trick/tools needed.
