Re: Welcome new member - 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible

Looks like you have an excellent car to start with.  That 318 is an excellent engine and fairly peppy.  There are now  parts available to give it some more go and the guys on this site know more about that than anyone.  Gary Pavlovich, who has posted to this thread was instrumental in developing  a aluminum high rise intake, camshafts, and heads for your poly 318.
If it were me, I would never put a 440  engine in it unless you want crazy horses.  The gas tank: I would take to a radiator shop, have it cleaned and pressure tested, and have a sealant coated inside the tank.  I expect it has the stock radiator which was plenty enough to cool that engine. Back-flush  the radiator and block separately with plain water. Put some radiator cleaner- rust treatment  in it( as per directions) run it for a while , drain and put in fresh water with some water pump lubricant.  If that doesn't cure your over heating, the radiator may need to be professionally  checked.  core rodded out, and cleaned. It's a gamble if it needs a new core or new radiator.
One of the best vendors of parts for our 62-65 Mopars is Joe Suchey who has his parts list  on this website.

Great looking Coronet Tim!  Thank you for sending pics for us to enjoy.
Once you start “cleaning/flushing/inspecting” you will make progress quickly; time does takes its toll on all parts.  Most likely the varnish from old gas and water in brake lines from Winter to Summer condensation may necessitate some R&R but let us know how we may help you.

Hi everyone! here are a few pictures of when i picked it up at my moms. Was a cold day and the brakes were stuck. Once i got the brakes to free up i had no brakes so it was an interesting time getting it from the garage to the trailer. In the past i would go over and start the car a few times a year. It hasn't run since around 2005 as i lost track of it. All i had to do was clean the points and it fired up on some gas i dumped down the carb. it accually ran on the gas that was in the tank. Didn't run good but it ran. i put 5 gallons of premium in to hopefully bring it back a little. I am planning on dropping the tank and possibly just replacing the tank and all the soft lines. I will pull the carb and freshen it up. I will change oil and flush the coolant system. I may be installing an aluminum radiator to help it cool better. i know it would get warm if i idled it in the past.

Hi my name is Tim. I have a 1965 dodge coronet 500 convertible that was my dad's car. He bought the car just out of Vietnam. This car was his baby. My mom and dad got married in this car and took it on their honeymoon to Yellowstone. This car has been in my family and probably has more stories than I can imagine. My dad had the dream to restore this car and bring it back to its glory. My dad passed away in 1999 from a tumor that we believe was caused by agent orange exposure in Vietnam. The poly 318 was the first engine that my dad and I have ever rebuilt together. The engine runs good. I plan on trying to do what my dad never was able to finish. I want to get this car running and driving so I can get my mom back out in it. I hope this group can help me out with this journey. Thanks Tim
