Re: Fw: 62 Polara 741 rear end

Bill,

To answer your question, if your '62 741 carrier is without Sure Grip, (NO). To use a carrier with Sure Grip the axles would have to be shortened by 1/16", from 30 1/2" to 30 7/16".

I have done this twice so far, replacing a 741 case non-Sure Grip with a 742 case Sure Grip. It takes about 45 minutes per side. The reason you have to shorten the axles is that prior to 1964 the thrust blocks were 1/8" thicker requiring 2 different axle lengths. in '64 the thrust block became standard allowing one length axle to be use for Sure Grip or non-Sure Grip units.

Please address private email -- email of interest to only one person -- directly to that person. That is, email your parts/car transactions and negotiations, as well as other personal messages, only to the intended recipient. Do not just press "reply" and send your email to everyone using the general '62-'65 Clubhouse public email address. This practice will protect your privacy, reduce the total volume of mail and fine-tune the content signal to Mopar topic. Thanks!
