Heat is not an issue. LEDs consume much lower amounts of energy than incandescent or halogen and consequently 
emit much less heat. 

PS: If you are upgrading lights, consider an item  from Dan Stern Lighting. He sells Hella® LED Center 3rd Brake Lamp 
Kits that are made in New Zealand, not the typical Chinese junk .

Hum. I  just remembered you have a 'vert. I don't know if Dan has a kit for that, as the Hella kits got inside the rear 
glass.
