Holley's also have a tiny set screw in the
secondaries to open them slighly at idle to provide that extra air so you can
close the primaries down...

Thanks, Good video but he lost me at the very end.
He said to drill all 4 butterflies even with vacuum secondaries however in the
video it did not look like he drilled the secondaries on the vacuum
carburator? Dennis C. On Sunday, September 24, 2017 at

No idle mixture changes is also due to excess throttle plate opening.
The carb starts pulling fuel thru the transfer slots and bypasses the idle
circuit, hence no mixture screw response.

Not being much of a carb tuner I have had
questions about this Holley Street Avenger since trying to get it set up
on my car. I bought it used on ebay. I found that I could
turn the air mixture screws in all the way without making any
diference. I followed the Holley tuning guide
and did change the power valve to one that my results suggested I should
be using. The slots in the primary venturi seem to be partly
exposed (eyesight not what it used to be) with the plates fully
closed. Not sure if this relates to what Mike is talking
about. But there is definitely something goofy with this carb and
i'd like to get to the bottom f it.

I've heard some differing info over the years on
ignition timing. I was talking to MO recently, and the guy who
set up his distributor on his machine made the comment that setting
"x" was all wrong for a manual transmissi on. So I'm wondering
if there is a difference in what you do for manual vs.
automatic. Right now I've got mine set at 32* BTDC all in at @
2500. This is 440 primarily street driven car with a bit of a
cam. I had been running with the vacuum advance plugged
off. I recently checked the timing because I was able to borrow
a timing light. I had a crappy one when I set it before.
It was retarded about 8* so more like 25* BTDC. So I reset it
and the result was that it seemed to run a little better but I had
developed a slight bog from a stop. So I'm wondering where I
should go from here? Should I hook up the vacuum advance and
reset the total advance? BTW it didn't seem to make any
difference on my issue with running hot in town
