It is a specially shaped socket. Yesterday I cleaned the area around the upper ball joints, dosed them with penetrating fluid, and repacked the wheel bearings. Right now I'm thinking that I'll replace the lowers myself along with the tie rod ends. They also mentioned the radius arm bushing. I'm guessing they were referring to the strut rod, right? If I can find a socket for the uppers and depending on how much I beat myself up doing the rest of it I may tackle the uppers. I've been battling rheumatoid arthritis but now have medication that has me feeling better than I have in many months. So I'm feeling like I can tackle at least some of it.

I took my 63 to the shop today for a front end alignment. I had turned up the torsion bars for more ground clearance. Well they told me I need new ball joints upper and lower and new tie rod ends, plus a radius arm bushing (?). They estimated the job at $1200. I'm thinking I can do most of the work myself and save $$$$. I've priced the parts on Rock Auto and they are probably less than $200. Any pitfalls in doing this work?
