After two time trials, things were looking a little gloomy for
me at the Nostalgia Super Stock part of the Norwalk NMCA Race. Started off
above my index and got slower even though the change I made, adding more
timing, should have sped up the car. But, prior going into the only qualifying run
on Friday, we set the valves and lowered the launch RPM from 1750 and 2000 to
1500 RPM plus pulled the ballast, a spare tire, out of the trunk. This allowed
the car to go just under the 12.000 index with an 11.987. With two rounds of
qualifying still to go on Saturday, I sit 27th in a 34 car field. That’s
not really a bad position since I’m the first car under the index and just a little
tweaking will put me very close to the top of the field if things go right and
luck rides with me.
The heat and humidity are wrecking havoc on the tuning and adjusting and that is the
key to hitting the index. I lack the weather stations and predictive software the big boys have so this is going to be a challenge. We'll see.
More to follow tomorrow.
