nealDoes anybody know how long you could buy 340s from either a dealer or direct connection? My car has a 340 but started out as a 318 car. The guy said they swapped in a 340 crate motor in the 80s. I thought "yeah right, probably some piece of crap from a junkyard that's been bored out 2 times.Tonight I had it on a stand so I decided to yank the heads and pan. On the block I found "70". When I pulled the heads and cleaned a cylinder top there were no overbore numbers, completely blank and the ring ridge at top of cylinders is very minimal, my fingernail can feel it barely, but wont catch on it really. Piston tops and combustioin chambers don't have deposits or carbon, pretty clean. When I bought the car the guy told me the motor probably had less than 30k on it. ("yeah right!") so maybe his stories true, except that I don't know when they actually stopped selling them. I don't see how it could have been running around since 1970 and have that minimal of a ridge.and never bored out. If nothing else it makes me happy to know my motor has at least a couple overbores left.
