If by suspicious you mean a gray kinda foamy look, then yeah, it's most likely a head gasket.  You really have to be more specific when asking such questions.

I am having blown head gasket fears, drained coolant  for a water pump swap and  coolant looks suspicious. I want to do a compression check, but I have the front of the motor  torn  off (fan, pulleys, belts, alternator. Can I crank it to do a compression check without the alternator hooked up and running?
