Look good Bill – got my engine back from the rebuilder on Friday all rebuilt and balanced. .030 over and mildest 256 cam from Gary P and Schneider cams.
Bud’s machine & engine in Lakewood, WA. Shop has been there 40 years plus – Bud is 75 and still working the phones, desk and balancing machine. When I brought my heads up to him 2 years ago, I thought it was a 2 man job to lift Poly heads. He unloaded them himself from my truck!
Anyway – starting to make progress myself over the weekend. Set valve lash, installed oil pump & pick-up, oil slinger, timing cover, oil pan, dampner, water pump, oil filter adapter. Did some painting. Test fit the manifold and valve covers before final install. Still need to get a new oil pump/distributor shaft. Ran out of my favorite gasket sealant anyway, spray can of Hylomar blue. So have those things on order. A new dipstick & tube coming too, old one is intact but don’t want to use it – same story for valve cover breather caps.

Managed to get the valve bodies torn apart and the rooster combs swapped, shifter cable attached, starter on, new engine wiring harness connected, motor mounts secured, carb installed, spark plug wires ran, and most importantly...the headers are in!!!!
WOOHOO!!!
