Hello,
Check your voltage regulator, Either take the case off and see if it has mechanical relay looking internals or just look at the bottom to see if it has resistors. If it has the resistors or is an old electric/mechanical regulator it is time to replace it.
Most if not all regulators for your car being sold today are electronic solid state units. They will not have resistors on the bottom and the case may be slightly different but they have the same mounting bracket. I know at my parts store I have asked to see several of the new ones, the boxes may be identical but have different looking regulator in the box.
Good grounding has been already covered it is important and necessary. If you have any doubt about the wire condition from the regulator to the field of the alternator replace the wire. I leave the original wire in place and run a new one along side of the existing wiring harness.
Your battery and any electronic stuff in the car will appreciate the new voltage regulator.

I'm using a new timing light which has multiple functions, and it's showing about 15.75V at Idle to the battery. Is this cause for concern? If so, what can be done?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
