Re: Wiper arm and blade replacements

I have the wiper blades on the car using my original arms.  The adapter needs a raised tit to lock onto to hold the adapter on the arm, our arms just have a hole.  The hole is slightly too small for a 6-32 machine screw to go through.

I tapped the hole to 6-32, it cut a very shallow thread but enough to hold the adapter on the arm.

I drilled the adapter with a #28 bit through the existing release tab hole through the entire adapter.

I attached the adapter to the arm with a 6-32 allen button head machine screw.  The screw was cut in length to extend completely through the adapter and be flush with the backside.  I considered leaving it longer and putting a nut on the back but it was not necessary on my arms.  The machine screw is stainless but a little magic marker worked well on it.  When I get to an industrial hardware I'll get some that are black oxide coated.

Initially I used the ANCO 16" blades but with the adapter they were too long.  The ones in the picture are from Walmart, their house brand Supertech 15" blades.  They came with the same hook  adapters as the ANCO blades.

I am planning on taking a road trip with the car this summer and wanted to have wipers that I can get blades for at any parts store.

This was easy on my 63 Sport Fury, the arms had an adapter on the end of the arm that was easy to remove.  My 64 Belvedere has a different arm, I opted for the Trico 51-250 arm instead of taking my arm apart.

The pictures should help explain what I am saying.  Picture 2358 shows the two arms, the one on the top is off of the 64 and the bottom one the 63.

Pictures 2391 and 2391 shows how the blade is stakes onto the arm on my 64.

I am interested in knowing other solutions to the windshield wiper blade problem.

Subject: Wiper arm and blade replacements

As any of you know the wiper blade refill for our cars is not available new and NOS does not work for a driver, great for a show car.

If anyone wants wiper blades for a driver there is still an option I found, it is the Trico 51-250 arm that will take standard blades.  The arm works well but does not look very nice.  It is a universal arm that will work on either side therefore it has a joint that will allow the blade to be turned as needed.  The arm length is also adjustable.

I just put a set on my 64 Belvedere that is just a driver.  The Trico 51-250 is out of production but is still available in parts houses.  The set I bought was from O'Reilly at less than $12.00 per arm.

If anyone wants pictures send me a personal message.  I tried to attach here but was not able to, maybe because of the operating system I use, Linux.
