I still say it's half of a V12.
It's actually the middle 6 cylinders of a Slant-16 originally designed for cars with the very, very long hoods of the 1930s. No, wait, sorry, it's actually half a Pancake-12, that is a horizontally-opposed "boxer" 12-cylinder engine originally developed for an experimental hovercraft Chrysler had to mothball in the mid-1950s because Senator Joe McCarthy threatened to denounce it as a communist plot. So they cut off six of the cylinders, rotated the remaining six _upward_ by 60 degrees from the original horizontal orientation, and voilà, a slant-6.
