Agree that it sounds like the dwell or possibly a condensor that is starting to go bad. A few questions... Do u have the single or dual point setup? What is your dwell running at? Do the edges of the points look black/smoked like they've been arcing? Are the surfaces of the points clean and smooth? Are the wire connectors inside the dist solid ? Is the condensor miscolored or leaking? What is the point gap measurement? Are your coil connections solid? Is coil wire to distributor starting to fray or break?
