RE: An intermittent starting issue...

Hi Scott,

Here's something you can try that is a bit old school. The next time you experience the clicking / no start, connect a bump starter switch between the positive terminal on the battery and the "S" terminal (the smaller wire) on the starter. If the starter works OK with a remote button, your issue is likely in the wiring circuit to / from the firewall- mounted relay as opposed to the positive battery cable. (It takes a strong current through that circuit to activate the solenoid on the starter, else you get the clicking syndrome.)

Just a thought "starter" for you LOL.

Thank you,

Jim

Subject: An intermittent starting issue...

Hi all,
So when I sometimes try to start my '64 300, I'll turn the key and get just a click. If I wiggle the wires that the arrows are pointing to, the car will start. Sometimes it takes a couple tries, but it starts. It seems obvious that the connections are dirty, and that's causing the problem.

I do clean and tighten (squeeze) the connectors every once in a while, but the problem comes back. Is there a way to fix this permanently? I've considered soldering them, but that seems a bit extreme, and I don't know what I could harm by doing that.

Also, I'm fuzzy on the electrical stuff, but can anyone tell me what these wires are, and is that a relay?

Thank you in advance,
~S~
