RE: Brake Update

I did this conversion on my '65 Belvedere a number of years ago, following a tech article by Richard Ehrenberg in Mopar Action. I recall that it basically involved unhooking the rear brake line from the existing tee, plugging that outlet on the tee with a flare plug, and then using a union to run an additional stretch of 3/16 tubing to the secondary side of the new dual master cylinder. For the front brakes, another stretch of steel tubing is run from the primary outlet of the new master cylinder to the tee in place of the old 1/4" line from the original  "tea pot" master cylinder.

For the master cylinder I went with a 1" bore, and the pedal feels pretty good. When I converted my Valiant to 73-76 a-body disc brakes, I went with 15/16" and find it way to mushy. It will be swapped.

Oh, and no changes to the pedal were needed...just need to make sure the master cylinder has the machined recess for the retaining ring (and that you have the ring) so the pedal doesn't just pull out.

I seem to recall that when I was thinking about converting to a dual master cylinder in my 65 Belvedere I was told that I needed to make some changes to the pedal.  Is the stock brake pedal in the Barracuda OK to use as is?

Nothing wrong with staying all drums.  Pre-bent stainless kit is the way to go, much easier to work with for final fitment.  I put a second full loop in the line from the master cylinder - try that with standard steel lines.

Got those and the (’73-’76 A body) front disc kit from:  http://www.getdiscbrakes.com/

Supplied 15/16” Master cylinder Centric 130.63017 seemed too spongy for manual disc/drum brakes.  Swapped it out for a 1 - 1/32” bore part number NMC1515.

There is also a 1 - 1/8” Mopar master available - lots of good brake info here too:

I am thinking about updating my 64 Barracuda to go from the single-line braking system to a dual-line system, and using a full brake-line kit, in conjunction with a new master cylinder and proportioning valve block to get there.  I was thinking that if I use a master cylinder and line kit (either pre-bent or bend-your-own) from a 68-69 Dart/Barracuda, that would work.  I do not plan on going from drum to disk, just keeping the drums all the way around.

Wouldn't this later A-body brake system work on the 64 Barracuda (Slant 6/ manual brakes)?  I am trying to keep this a relatively simple procedure, while updating the system for safety (I know disks are safer.  Don't want to go there...).
