Re: Mopar of the Month | June 2014

I ran the Hoosier pro street radial the smallest one they made I've forgotten but they hooked like the drag slicks did. After a few years they got hard and I could spin them easier. But get them hot and hold on!!! They were on my 72 charger with no troubles.

Thanks for posting the tire/wheel data, Mike.  I appreciate it as I think I stuffed a little too much tire under the back of my car and am worried about a rub on the sharp sheet metal lip on the inside of the wheel opening.  I moved the springs in via the Mopar relocation kit, but I didn't do any further body modifications.  I believe I need to go from an 11.50 tire to a 10.50.

Here's what I am running now:

Wheels:

Center Line Auto Drags, 15 x 8.5 with 4.875 backspacing

Tires:

Hoosier Quick Time Pros, 29 x 11.50-15

I was thinking about buying some drag radials so as not to be worried about Barney Fife when cruising.  M&H RaceMaster has a 275/60R15 that would reduce my section width 1.3 inches (from 11.90 to 10.60) and tread width from 10.00 to 8.80.

Wondering if anyone from the group has experience with these tires?  Or perhaps another thought?

Take care,

Jim

all,
thank you for the compliments.

steve, i have not taken the car out yet this year.  i have tested electrical connections for the trans-brake / ignition controller -- thanks to a long driveway and no neighbors ;-)

jim, wheel tire combinations are as follows:
old combination:
front - american racing torq-thrust d 15x4.5  moroso drag special 7.60-15
rear - stockton steel 15x10 (5.75" BS)   M/T ET slick 31x10.5w-15

new combination:
front - weld racing classic RT polished 15x4  moroso drag special 7.60-15
rear - weld racing classic RT polished 15x10 (5.5" BS)  M/T ET slick 31x10.5w-15

i was twisting ARP wheel studs regularly with the steel wheels and cone lug nuts.  i needed more contact area for the lugs so i switched to shank style and that cured my problem, hence the switch to the weld wheels.

let me know if there are more questions,
mike

What an awesome car!  Mike, would you be willing to share your tire / wheel combination?  Just curious...

Thank you,

Jim
