4) TMC 2014 Car Shows & Events
- April26, 2014 – TMC at Richmond International Raceway -
Around8:45 a group of 12 TMC Mopars departed the Macy’s parking lot at GreenbrierMall headed out to Charlie Daniels’s Racing in Smithfield. When we arrived atCharlie’s there was already a group of 7 Mopars waiting on us. As we waited forCharlie to arrive, 4 more Mopars showed up and to make it interesting we evenhad a 1969 Mustang and a Chevy truck join in for the cruise up to the track.
Charliearrived, we held a quick driver’s meeting to make sure everyone knew the routewe were taking and what gate the car corral was located. We left Charlie’s at10:30 am to cruise the back roads up to the Route 460. Charlie lead the way inhis 1970 Plymouth Superbird, Prez Butch in his 2010 “Mopar ‘10” Challenger wasback in the middle of the group and CE Gardner brought up the rear in hisDurango. By the first traffic light the group was separated into 3 groups, butluckily Charlie and Butch had radios to keep each other informed on where theywere. Jeri Centric, who was riding with Butch, was on the cell phone with CE’swife Annette keeping the end of the line of car in check.
Wemade one quick stop in a school parking lot off Route 258 to let everyone catchup to Charlie before we started down Route 620 back road to 460. Once everyone got onto 460 westarted to take up both lanes, it really looked cool to see all the Moparscruising all together and we definitely got some looks as we all pulled intothe big truck stop for a quick break before getting onto I-295. As we allpulled out on to the interstate we broke up into smaller groups, others decidedto challenge each other to short speed races, including Charlie that reallyseparated the group. There was only one wrong turn, which created a big U-turnfor the group before everyone found their way into the car corral.
Therewas a large group of about 15 Corvettes and 10 Camaros already parked in thecar corral, but our group of TMC Mopars definitely took over the show! Onceparked, everyone set-up camp to eat lunch they brought and other went out tocheck out all the different vendors. The best part of the afternoon waseveryone going down into the pits and getting to walk all around the trackitself. By 5:30pm everyone had gone back to the car corral to gather up theirstuff and headed to the grandstands for the pre-race ceremony. We had goodseats down close to the track off turn 1 after the exit from pit row. Everyonehad a great time, some left a little early to beat traffic and some stayed tothe end. By the way Joey Logano in his Penske Ford
TMCwould like to thank Scott Byer from Richmond International Raceway foreverything he did to help the club get the Car Corral Package and we arelooking forward to coming back on May 18th to do some laps aroundthe race track in our Mopars!

- May9, 2014 - Modern Street Hemi Shootout, TMC cruise to VMP
Theseare some of the fastest Modern Hemi Mopars in the country! This is the first of2 events that MSHS will be having at VMP this year, the second will be held atTMC’s Mopar Madness show in September.
Sponsormember Rick Hart led a cruise from the Macy’s lower parking lot at GreenbrierMall up to Virginia Motorsports Park. All TMC members got in free and parked ina coned off area behind the grandstands beside the Hot Rod Grill. They left andcruised back with Rick Hart to Charlie Daniel’s Racing where they stopped forthe Friday Night Cruise-In.
Ricksaid “They had a fun cruise-up, a greatday at the track and really enjoyed the cruise-in, there were a lot of carsthere.”

- May17, 2014 - TMC Picnic at Charlie Daniels Racing Smithfield –
TMC Annual Picnic– Was held on Saturday, May 17th 2014 at Charlie Daniels Racing in Smithfield. Thepicnic officially didn’t start till 11am, but TMC member Scott Benson wouldtell you it started for him around 4 am, because he was there lighting thegrill and getting the pig cooking. By Noon there was already a large group ofMopars parked out in the freshly cut grass at Charlie’s and the band: “Ax toGrind” was getting set-up so they could start jamming. They would go on to play2 – 50+ minute sets of killer Classic Rock like Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, VanHalen, Jimmy Buffet, The Who and their guitarist tore-up the guitar with someStevie Ray Vaughn tunes.
Ittook a little longer than expected for the BBQ to be done, but when it was, there was plenty Benson’s famous homemade Carolina BBQ for everyone! There wasan assortment side dishes, cakes , cookies, pies and chips to satisfyeveryone’s taste. The club provided soft drinks and water, but there was alsosome personal bottles of soda going around too! This year there was a “CornHole” tournament played on some cool Mopar boards with cash prizes for thewinners. TMC BOD Member AJ Schneider did a great job of setting up the CornHole singles and doubles tournament which he actually won 1st placein singles and Butch/Rick Hart won doubles.
Therewas a 50/50 raffle of $150 that was won by, oh no, not him again, yes TMC memberCarl Hubbell won again. Carl has won something in every 50/50 raffle since he joinedthe club! There were also tickets handed out by TMC Secretary Jeri Centric aseveryone drove in. Winners received TMC Hats, License Plates and the final 10got to select a free TMC 25th Anniversary t-shirt from the clubtrailer!

6) Mopar News
New Dodge SRT Division Future LooksVery Bright
Thenews that the Chrysler Group is discontinuing the SRT brand has led to a greatmany reports of the Street and Racing Technology branch being “dead” and whilethings are certainly changing a great deal within the company structure – theSRT division is alive and well with a collection of new models set to hit themarket in the next five years.
Thebiggest news from the 2014 Chrysler Group 5-year plan was that the SRT brandwas being folded into the Dodge brand, meaning that the SRT Viper would returnto being the Dodge Viper. It seems as though a great many publications stoppedreading at that point, as they were quick to report that “SRT is dead”. FormerSRT boss Ralph Gilles was quick to take to the Twitter to proclaim that SRT wasalive and well, even though it would no longer exist as a standalone brand. Manypeople seem to forget that Chrysler’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT)division began as a performance branch that took models from the other ChryslerGroup brands and infused a hefty dose of high performance.
Longbefore the SRT brand existed and years before the SRT Viper was introduced asthe first SRT-branded model, the folks at SRT were creating high performanceversions of the Dodge Charger, the Dodge Challenger, the Dodge Neon, the DodgeViper, the Chrysler Crossfire, the Chrysler 300C, the Jeep Grand Cherokee andthe Ram 1500. Back then, SRT was a trim line created by a performance divisionso in a return to that same approach it is clear that SRT isn’t dead – it isjust returning to how the division existed when it was at its peak of popularity.
Asfor the future of the SRT division, things seem to be as bright as ever.Beginning in 2015, the Dodge Viper will return, but it will continue to bedeveloped by the Street and Racing Technology arm of the company.
Arrivinglater this year, the SRT division will roll out their new high performancevariants of the new Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger – both of which will bepowered by the SRT-developed Hellcat supercharged Hemi with power levels thatcould top 600hp. The Chrysler 300 SRT is being discontinued as the SRT brand isdissolved, but the popular Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT will continue on…hopefullypacking the Hellcat Hemi in the near future. Even with little information onthe future of the SRT Jeep and knowing that the SRT 300 is about to disappear, the fact that the SRT division is introducing the most powerful Mopar musclecars of all time alongside the stunning new Viper is a pretty clear sign thatSRT is just fine in the short term.
Goingforward, it appears as though the Chrysler Group plans for the SRT division tokeep producing high performance models through at least 2018. The newturbocharged, all-wheel drive, Dodge Dart SRT is expected to arrive towards theend of 2016 followed by a new (and puzzling) SRT version of the Dodge Journeyin early 2017.
The5-year plan also includes an more changes for the SRT Challenger and SRTCharger coming late in 2018. There is sadly no mention of any SRT plans in theJeep or Ram brand 5-year plan, but the current Dodge and Jeep SRT lineupscombined with the plans for new SRT vehicles in 2016, 2017 and 2018 shows thatwhile SRT might not be its own brand anymore – the Street and Racing Technologybranch of the Chrysler Group will be churning out incredible Americanperformance cars for years to come.

8) TMCWebsite and Forum
In order to post on the club forumyou must get a user name and password. There are always spammerstrying to get access to the forum, so new users must answer a question to beable to apply for a username. The question is easy for Mopar people, but notfor spammers. This process requires you user name and password to be verifiedusing an admin authentication. Once you submit your request we need to check itout and make sure that it is not a spam user, once confirmed you will then getan e-mail back with a login link. We did this because we have gotten almost asmany spam users as actual members wanting to get on the forum. We don't wantthem infiltrating the forums and possibly posting links to viruses, etc. It will take a bit longer for folks to getaccess, but it will make the forums safer.
Thenew TMC Sponsor Members for 2014 are onboard and you can find them at thebottom of the TMC website Home Page. 2014 TMC Member Sponsors will have theirbusiness logo with their contact information and if they have a website you canjust click on their logo to access it.
