I found the answer to the "Rooster comb" differences

I looked into my paperwork and found that my trans builder did R&R the valve body from my original trans and transplant it to my new trans..  I should have had more faith in her.  Again another one of those "assume" scenario's.  

The '63 and new '65 trans are alike because the '65 has the '64  innards!!!

All should be fine after I get it adjusted properly. Duh!
