Metering rods and springs do nothing at idle. Check
for vacuum leaks everywhere...carb base, rubber vac. lines, intake-to-head
gaskets, etc. Have you put a vacuum guage on the engine yet? Also, check your
distributor advance. It may have very light springs in it so it won't return to
no-advance setting until quite low RPM.
Just my thoughts...

Subject: Cam for my 440
Pulling my hair out!
I have a 440 cross ram in my 62 Belvedere making a clone 413 nostalgia
straight axle car. I finally got it running with new Edebrock E Street
Alum heads and Comp 23-227-4 cam.

It runs really strong but will not idle. I was told this was a mild cam
for street and strip. It will not idle at less than 1500 rpm and I have to
keep a foot on the brake and one on the gas when at a stop and in gear. I put
a new 2800 stall converter in it. Do any of these things sound wrong to
anyone?
Being a converted mopar nut, I am really lost on how to tune this engine
and my engine builder is a holley carb guy, so he is no help. I have changed
the jets and metering rods and springs to no avail.
I am just digging a hole at this point and need all the help I can get.
Edelbrock said they could not help either.
