Max wedge intake plug - correction

Jimmy,
You're absolutely right, and that makes a lot better sense.  The drum bung I measured was a really crappy stamped one and I attributed the slight taper to draft in the stamping, and took it to be a straight thread as the bung had a gasket.  The 3/4" pipe measures just over an inch (1.050") with 14 tpi, where the UNS thread diameter is 1.00" with 14 tpi.  Don't know why I missed that, but thanks for catching it.

I took an intake plug to the local parts store, which is run by a Ford guy with years of garage experience. He has never seen that particular plug on a Ford, but rooting around in his Dorman book we found a 7/8-18 drain plug that looked like it would fit.  The threaded portion is about 5/8" long, which would make it protrude into the intake by a small amount.  The real downside is that it's got a fairly large (1 1/4"?) hex head.  Thinking back 35 years the first Max Wedge I bought had very similar plugs in it... they felt like they weighed a pound! Anyway, for between 3 and 4 bucks, they might be a decent stop-gap until better plugs are available.  But at $12 each Crossram Connection's are a smoking deal.

That would be a 3/4" pipe fitting. Not the right threads.
