Re: Need some hood clearance measurements from the mail lists

Thank you Ric for the time to measure.  How about a 1966 Charger if anyone has it sitting next to their 62-65 Mopar?

All measurements received thus far indicate that the New Poly Air Gap four barrel intake with Edelbrock carb atop measures exactly the same height as the stock Poly 2bbl. intake and carb.  This provides an average of 4.25” of carb top to underside of hood clearance.  This allows use of our 3” open element K&N or paper filters in a stock air cleaner assembly or 4”+ with a “drop base” air cleaner assembly – which most of us probably use.

4.25” from stock Carter 3241S 2bbl to bare hood skin, in a ’62 wagon.

Real easy to measure folks - set locked tape on carb - close hood slowly while peaking in over radiator - hood pushes tape down to exact dimension - add thickness of tape case as noted on all yo-yos.

Pics attached.  Keep the updates coming on this sweet Poly SS 4bbl project.

Thanks,

Ric

Gentlemen,

As you may know, we are in the process of casting a new Air Gap 4bbl. intake for the 318 Poly based on the successful HEMI manifold design from Hot Heads (over 500HP at the Engine Masters Challenge) and I want to double check the average hood clearance for our 1962-66 Mopars equipped with the 318 Poly – the early 1956-61 cars seemed to have enough room for a tunnel ram!

It would be of great help to me to have hood clearance measurements based on the distance from the top of your 2bbl. or 4bbl. carb to the underside of the hood if your Mopar is 318 Poly equipped (although other engines may have similar hood clearances).  You will need to measure this distance w/o the air cleaner assembly.  Perhaps lay a straightedge across the top of the carb throat and use a pillar of clay or loose tension measuring tape for an accurate measure.

Thank you for any help on the measurements you can provide and please send them “off-list” to me at glpavlovich@xxxxxxx so we don’t bore the really BIG HP guys or clog up our mail list.
