The instrument cluster in our Mopars is SUPPOSED to be grounded
through the mounting screws to the dash frame. If you're working on
the cluster using the car to power it, you need a wire from the
cluster ground to a good solid body ground. It's a good idea to add
that wire to the stock cluster anyway, otherwise the cluster may
become intermittent. Here is a complete '65 Plymouth Factory Service Manual: https://www.dropbox.com/s/upks33txhb...e%20Manual.pdf You are using aftermarket wiring, but the the wiring diagrams in this manual show some details of the instrument cluster. The drawings you need are on page 8-98 & 8-99. You wrote: "... I'm only seeing any current using a test light that's grounded to the dash. I know I need to run power through the ammeter but that can come later correct?..." I'm not familiar with the EZWire kit. It may not have a high current path through the ammeter. If it has a direct connection from the alternator to the battery (or starter or starter relay) you're pretty much committed to losing the factory ammeter. They're a number of folks who can convert the factory ammeter to a volt meter. If you WANT the ammeter to function, doing the necessary modifications now makes sense to me. If you plan on a high power alternator and high current add-ons like lights, big stereo, radiator electric fans, etc. etc, losing the ammeter is the best approach. I need to point out that you are NOT "seeing any current using a test light..." A test light only senses VOLTAGE. I hope you have NOT connected 12 volts to the instruments, as the stock gauges MUST be powered from the Instrument Voltage Regulator. If you're using aftermarket gauges, they will want 12 volts. That's enough rambling from me for now. I think I've addressed your questions. Need more help, just ask. BC On 11/8/2013 8:33 AM, Michael Phelps

Yes that's what I'm asking. I guess I should have been more direct in my email. I tend to ramble even in emails I guess..... Look I'm doing it again. Also do you have more info regarding the ammeter conversion? Is that right? Also, while you have the cluster out it is a good time to consider having that ammeter gauge converted to a dc gauge. Thanks, Gary H.-------Original Message------- From: Michael Phelps Hello all. I'm trying to hook up my instrument panel during the rewiring process. I'm using the EZwire kit. I have everything connected but I'm not sure about grounding the panel. Is it grounded through the mounting screws to the dash? I'm running power through it but I'm only seeing any current using a test light that's grounded to the dash. I have the instrument power connected to one side of the temp gauge and one side of the oil pressure warning light and gas gauge. I know I need to run power through the ammeter but that can come later correct? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. 65 Belvedere II Convertible.
