Others may have already mentioned this but the ring end gap is supposed to be opened up substantially compared to the standard specified gaps when using hypereutetic pistons. Not doing so supposedly leads to the problem you reported. We went with hypereutetics in my son's 360 for his 69 Barracuda and did this but I can't recall exactly what spec we used. Iirc I got the spec from a tech at KB.
