I agree with lorring have done it that way many times with no problem just make sure you gave the correct lug studs

I have done it with lug nut reversed and washers for decades with no bad results. I have used both impact and 4-way's. I also be sure to re-tighten after a couple miles to be sure they set. Never used cold or heat at all. some PB Blast to clean the rust from the axel.

Any body have any luck doing this themselves and not taking the whole axle to a machine shop for pressing? When I pried off my brake drum, it destroyed the studs. I tried the big thick washer and lug nut approach to try to pull it through, but it didn't feel good so i stopped. I am willing to take it to a shop, but if there's a way to home remedy and get it done before Monday I sure would love to hear it. I thought about freezing the studs overnight and heating up the axle but I am a little worried what the heat might do the wheel bearings.
