And you are correct Bill, that was something that was done long ago. Not sure if it is still something that will help with the modern casting or not. But if you're bored and care to give it a try, why not.
I've not heard Mo if they did that with the blocks or not. I would think not as they would not have the time to waste in building cars to let the blocks rest for months on end. You can tell by the casting date on the side of the block what day and what shift the block was cast on. My car was assembled on November 20th 1961, sold on December 22, 1961 the block was cast about 3 weeks before. I can't find my photo of my block or the txt file where I worked it all out or I'd show you how it's done. I know the later block have the cast date stamped on them like 9 19 69 for 09/19/1969 If you know the date the car was built you can know how long the block sat around.
