Re: What is SS/SA class

Well, in the old days,, the SS was Super Stock, the next S would be the class level, and the A ofcourse for Automatic.  Don't know what the car started out as, but as it is now it certainly would be higher rated than an S class.  That would be a small engine car.  For instance, I ran a SS/D with a 69 Hemi Runner, while my friend ran a SS/KA with a 360 Volare.  I would think an S class would be a 318 or smaller.  But then, classes changed alot year to year with NHRA, and the other sanctioning bodies were different too.  For instance, I had a car that could run D/SA (D Stock Automatic) in NHRA, but was B/SA in AHRA.  (actually, the cam it had was illegal for NHRA, but getting torn down at Thunder Valley in 1978 was pretty much unheard of, but thats what it took to be competitive in AHRA in that class.)  But then,, being as I was not then and still am not much of a tuner, I pretty much got my ass kicked on a regular basis and switched to ET class racing anyway.
And of course fiberglass flip front  wouldn't have played in stock or super stock either one, so maybe it was something entirely different.
Super Street or something ?

Attached are pictures of the fiberglass 62 Belvedere straight axle gasser I
bought to restore
In the 1 picture the dash says SS/SA
Was that a class for 1962 only? And what does each letter stand for. I
think it was Super Stock Automatic but what was the third S for?
thank you
David
