Re: Question re my Poly engine

Yes there is a timing chain seal and an oil slinger behind it on the crank snout.  It's not too hard to replace if you use a seal driver or find a socket or pipe the right size.  Be sure to clean the area good too.  There'll be a seal on yours so you just duplicate that on the new one.  I'd replace it too unless it's perfect cause it's much easier now.

We have sprung a leak in our 65 Coronet 318 Poly and I would like some information before tearing it apart. It looks like there is a hole through the timing chain cover at the water passage on the drivers side. I have a replacement cover in case it is more than a gasket problem, but my shop manual does not include details on the engine. I cannot tell if there is a seal in the cover that goes over the nose of the crank shaft. Can anyone tell me if replacing the timing chain cover has any hidden complications?

Thanks
