I'm not sure about the answer to your questions about transplanting the shaft, but you can install the power column and adapt it to a manual box with part number FR1505M from Flaming River. It ain't cheap exactly, at $170, but it's an option. They have complete columns but those are way more pricey even, like starting at $800.----
