Neil,
Your day should not be ruined. 62'-64' pushbutton 727 torqueflites are the same. The 65' 727 can may used with pushbutton with a minor valve body/cable modification. The main difference you have to check is the bell housing bolt pattern. Big block B/RB and small block A/LA engines are different. If the engine is the right group the 64' Fury 727 will work in your 62'. Both will have the 19 spline shaft using the same converter. Last week my new 727 for my Poly stroker was finished. Do not discard and pushbutton valve bodies, they are getting hard to find and many shops do not have exchange units. I had to use one of my extra units to be modified.

oh no, u guys just ruined my day!! the PB auto I was planning on using
in my 62 dart came from a 64 fury. This doesn't make sense though, I
mean wheres the interface?? How does the car know? The only place i
could see would be in the shifter, like every year shifter is somewhat
unique ( maybe?).
PS I am not talking about the newer front pump swap, I know about
that, I am talking about the control valve/rooster comb question.
