Adding a adjustable valve behind a proportioning valve is a waste of money and a hazard, greatly reducing the effectiveness of your rear braking. The wire from the prop valve is a ground for the brake light on the dash letting you know the valve is not centered, hence a problem if so equipped. The valve you speak of is by No means a proportioning valve, it is a pressure adjuster that is a crude replacement for one that the hot rod guys use. I use a prop valve on my conversions eliminating driving up and down a slightly gravel covered road slamming on the brakes over and over to get it adjusted as best as you can. Proportioning valves rarely go bad so I get mine from wrecking yards, if your doing a B body disk conversion get a prop valve from a B body with front disks. A body's, C body's same - same! If you want new, get one for what ever configuration your setting up.
Bottom line, if your building a factory car, ma MoPar paid very expensive engineers to design parts to make our cars stop. Why fight their expertise, all your doing is updating to newer technology. If your fabricating a car from scratch, Hot Rod, Rat Rod etc, and have no known variables the less expensive, and easy way out is an adjustable valve.

yes, the adjustable porportioning valves are about $50.00 and can be put in thr rear line only so you can hide them too. I have used them on many cars and are great. The only draw back could be is if you have a wire going from the original port valve, and not real sure what it did, i think for an idiot lite.Russell

I've wondered about a proportioning valve for the rear brakes. One would be needed, correct? Warren
