Re: Fury Gauge Cluster Question

When it was assembled, there were plastic pegs molded as part of the bezel. The lense was molded with holes and then placed over the pegs. The pegs were then flattened with a hot iron into what you see now. You can remove the lense by carefully cutting away the plastic "rivets" that retain it. Putting it back on is another matter. Your options include glue, plastic welding, or drilling holes for very small screws.

Folks,

I have the gauge cluster out of the '64 Fury and need to remove the plastic
that acts as the "glass window" between the outer trim plate and the panel
itself. The plastic is attached to the back side of the trim plate. It
looks like it is glued or riveted at 8 or 10 contact points.

Before I go tearing this thing apart (and breaking it), has anyone done
this before, and, if so, what is the trick? Heat gun? M-80s? .45 Auto?
Can't imagine I am to drill through plastic...

Thank you,

Jim
