That question has been cussed & discussed on here for ever! What do you want, factory looking for shows? Pertronix is your answer and unless the judges have a lot of time wont take points off your score, like they do with the MoPar units in our cars! For reliability, Ether One, Pertronix is all in side the distributor and the MoPar unit has the box & wire loom that clutters things up. Also very hard to hide for shows. I have Pertronix units in six of my cars with na a problem for 8+ years. I have had MoPar units in a couple of cars and had to change 1 box but otherwise problem free. That said a few members have had their share of heartaches with the Pertronix units and have opted to go with the MoPar unit. I don't recall anyone going the other way to Pertronix because of MoPar unit problems. Another + for Pertronix is to carry a set of points, condenser & rotor in your glove box and no matter what happens you will make it home. With the MoPar unit you will have to carry a spare distributor with you!
For show, the Pertronix unit has two wires coming out and attaches to both leads of the coil, to resolve that issue I run both wires inside heat shrink tube and and carefully shrink it till it looks like one wire, be careful to not over shrink it. I then run the wire under the coil and attach the leads, basically fooling the judges eye. I have NOT seen a MoPar unit convincingly hidden, Never!
One more recommendation, Use The Pertronix Coil and either remove the label or turn it down so it wont be seen. Just my $0.02 worth!
