Take your T Housing out to your driveway and carefully scrape it back and forth, stopping every so often to check the surface for uniform scratches across it's face. It will take the warp from over tightening right away, or should I say true it up, but a little less expensive than a machine shop. (-;

Subject: Thermostat housing
OK,, I feel like an idiot even bringing this up. I'm having a hell of a time getting my thermostat housing to seal up on my 383. The housing itself is not true anymore,, I took it to work and set it on a granite block used for precise measurement, and it rocks back and forth quite a bit. I grabbed one off another engine that sits rock solid (pun intended). It, however, doesn't seal tight either, and without a gasket will rock from side to side a bit on the pump housing. I hate to pull it apart and take a chance on a different pump housing. Anyone have any luck with sealing with some kind of gunk like permatex or the like ? I've never been happy with using anything with gaskets. Especially something with some pressure behind it. Can't believe I'm getting my ass kicked by a two bolt housing like this. :-(
