Re: Fuel Injection

I agree Cory. But, I also agree about the price. Very trendy but the carb EFI set up does not require the computer and wiring set-up that is on a factory vehicle. I am waiting to see one on a vehicle and really chat with the owner. Last year I did talk to a guy at Mopars at the Battleship that did try a Edelbrock on his 440 and was very disappointed and went back to carbs. They did return his money. There is a waiting list when you order..maybe that means something? But you can buy a lot of stuff for $2000. My present project has way more issues than worrying about that. Seems as I go thru a major set back daily. I got a new Vintage Air unit that sprung a heater core leak after about 10 hours of operation...unheard of.

Well for one thing you get instant start up every time.  No pumping and cranking the ever living shit out of your car to start it.  It's embarrassing when you're at a little car show and want to leave, but your stupid carb has other ideas.  Plus, like George said, there's the cool factor.  But George you're wrong about one thing.  A motor with efi on it will beat the same motor with a carb all day long.  And mpg. doesn't really matter that much to me.  It's all about driveability.  I can notice when the temp changes, my car runs and performs differently.  Here on the prairie, it changes drastically from say 12:30 pm to 9:30.  And efi compensates for all those factors.  You can drive and car with efi and it will run the same throughout the day.  A carb just can't do that.  So that's why I want efi on my car.

Possibly to be different. Better MPG? WOW factor?  To me,nothing beats the aspiration of a good old 4 bbl. carb. kicking when you want the power. What sets ours apart.

I guess I just don’t get it. Why on earth would you wanna put EFI on your engine? I’m really confused!

Hey Rich, there's just one problem with making your own.......I don't have those skills needed to piece one together.  I've been looking at the new MSD efi kit.  It looks pretty straight forward.  But I can't find out if you can buy off the shelf parts to fix if it breaks.(stuff like injectors and sensors)  Ones such as the Holley, Eldelbrock and other systems you can buy common parts to fix, but they lack a simple feature the MSD has.  No need for a return line.  This would make life so much easier.  The more I look into this, the more I get confused.  An as far as price goes, they're all around the $2000 mark.  Kind of a rip off considering how long efi technology has been around.

So gentlemen, and the few ladies on this list, do you have any more feed back?  Can you help me figure the best way to put efi on my beast?

Thank you

FAST Man EFI can convert any system to EFI. You can send them a manifold and they will set it up. Dual quads, single 4 bl, 2 bl, whatever. I talked with them at Spring Fling in Van Nuys, CA a number of years ago and bought a CD explaining it all. Now this is not a cheap deal and I'm sure we can do it ourselves but it is really nice stuff. It's at www.fastmanefi.com  After I get into my cruising mode I want to convert to EFI also.
