You can use the pump & input shaft from a newer 727 in your cable shift 727. Newer style converters are a lot less expensive than ours are.

Larry,
I believe you can buy a properly balanced flexplate for the 360 engine swap. The input shaft on early TFs is smaller diameter and will not work with 360 stock converters as they were all later model years. There are plenty of stroker packages and complete engines out there looking to pry open your wallet!

I understand that a small-block will interchange, but what about conflicts (such as a 360 having external balance, as opposed to the internal balance on a 318/340)? And will they mate without an adaptor to the SB727 push-button transmission?
Will a 383/400/413/440 mate up with the SB 727 transmission with an adaptor, or would I need to find a good BB 727? Any conflicts with the LA vs A engine mating up?
It would be simple to throw in a later LA engine, but I don't want to lose the push-buttons.
Thanks,
Larry
A 318, 340, 360 will bolt up to your trans. The big blocks have a different bell housing bolt pattern.

After checking further on my 64 Fury (318/Poly), looks like I will have to dig deeper into the engine, requiring a pull-and-rebuild if I want to keep the same engine it started it's life with.
My question is what can I replace it with and still use the push-button transmission? 318/361/383? How about later (LA) small or big blocks? Would later motors need an adaptor plate to mate to the trans?
All thoughts are appreciated.
