Engine starting

Man, I don't know if it's just cause I haven't learned it yet, but starting the 440 is tough for me. He'd get in it and it'd fire right up everytime. I get in it right after him and have trouble lol I pump it a few time and crank, and usually after the 3rd crank and putting pedal to floor whenever I let go of key and pedal it fires off. I've tried half throttle while starting, full while starting, and this morning, I got in it, pumped it about 5 times, half throttle and it fired up first try. Then I get in at store and it takes forever. If its hot it fires right up though. I'd say it's the evaporation but if he starts it it fires right up haha confusing! Any thoughts?
