Last Item...I think



OK I have chosen my paint, found an interior I can live with, I've done the brakes, got my sub and amp.....I have a little bit of money to play with the motor now.  Since I've convinced the shop NOT to put the 2009 truck in my car I was thinking this could be fun. 
 
"1968 Mopar 383 engine, casting date of 3/11/68 on the block., no VIN stamped into it anywhere. It has been hot tanked, bored and honed .060 over, new cam bearings and freeze plugs. The crank was turned .010/.010 and polished. The engine needs to be reassembled. Includes 7 pistons, (one was broken during tear down) rods, cam & lifters, 906 heads, rockers, pushrods, oil pump, timing cover, chrome valve covers, water pump, distributor, hardware, etc. No intake or exhaust manifolds. $400"
 
Here is my problem.  My car came with a 361cid, 265hp @4400 RMP and 380 Ft Lb Torque.  Not horrible, but I think the 383 puts out 330HP @4400 RPM and 425 Ft Lb Torque.  383 was an option for my car, as was the 413.  After seeing all the fun you guys have with your cars that go "ZOOM" I want to go "zoom" too.  I think all my parts from my 361 will fit on the 383, brackets, WP, PS, intake, exhaust, carb (if I was bored), etc. 
 
I think I will have to do the following.
 
1.  Find 1 piston, or a set.
2.  Have the pistons and rods balanced. (I think)
3.  Gasket set (either motor)
4.  4bbl intake and Carb.
5.  Lifters (he said they ones in the box have started to surface rust and he would replace them)
6.  Paint. (either motor)
7.  ???? 
 
I'm sure I can get more HP out of it with not too much cost, but I don't know how.  I can R & R most any part.  I can't play with insides of Automatics, but I'm not afraid of the motor.  The last motor I've done was a 1971 VW Bug, 18 years ago.  If I just redo the 361 this is what I have to do to it.
 
1.  New gasket set. (either motor)
2.  New WP
3.  New Flex Plate ( I have it)
4.  Rebuild the Carb.
5.  Paint (either motor
6.  Stronger Alt (either motor)
 
I will be putting on Dual Exhaust with either motor, give the car a nice little rumble but not too much, I don't want to hear it all damn day.  I value what you guys & gals have to say.  I'm sure most of you have more experience than I do with motors.

"1972 Mopar 440 Magnum, came out of my '68 GTX. It's a complete engine that ran good until it was pulled a few months ago. I completely dissassembled it for inspection, so you know what you'll get. It's standard bore, perfect for a stock rebuild or stroker motor foundation. $500

1975 440, rebuilt short block with machined block and crank, new bearings, rings and timing set. $500

1970 383, 9/69 casting, never heard it run, but pretty clean inside $200

1965 413 cast iron 4 barrel intake, will fit 426 and 440 too $25"
