Re: Disc brake conversion

On my 1964 Dodge 440, I used '73 Dart Spindles, backing plate, (New) rotors, calipars, bearings, and pads for a '73 dart. Brake hoses are for a '86 Dodge Diplomat.

I did mine on my 64 B Body. I used Volare spindles,Backing plates, brackets, calipers.brackets and rotors from a 75 Cordoba. Prop valve from a 77 Imperial, which was a direct bolton. master cyl. was from a 70 E body.xcalipers & rotors were new,as were wheeel bearings, pads. I do agree you are going to need a early to mid 70's C Body though. I would think a mid 70's would be a better bet. As for parts availabilty in the future? Parts are hard to come by now and knowlegable parts guys are harder to find. That Cory,is our lot in life doing what we do.

Hey George, judging by your response I take it you've done this conversion on a
c-body.  What would you, or anybody else, recommend I get these brakes off of?  I might be able to score a set off my buddy's 71 300 parts car.  Or maybe it's a 70.  Are these parts still fairly accessible at parts shops and will they still be available in years to come?

The rotors aren't junk.If you buy ones made overseas the metal is substandard and they are junk. I used the mid 70's pin style calipers and 11.75" rotors. If you have or use that style 15" wheels are what you have to go with.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input.  I kinda figured the Runner stuff wouldn't work.  But hey, you never know.  My next question would be rotors.  I've heard the rotors from these cars are, how you say, junk.  Is this true?  If so, what would be their replacement?

Mark,,Guess what!.. this past year i threw out a 1971 New Yorker with a fairly new front brake job on it.
I wish i had known the brake set up on the New yorker was setup to use on me Dodge,
today i could have been stopping on a dime..

No, the RR stuff won't work. You need a C-body setup like from a 68-73 full sized car. The '73 is the best, but I used a '71 NY'er setup on my 66 Fury III.

Hey everybody.

I want to do a disc brake swap on my 65 Polara this year.  My buddy is parting out a 73 Runner cuz it's a rusty piece of crap, as he puts it.  Will these brakes go on my Polara?   I've done interweb searches and checked out the Mopar Muscle tech archives and can't say I've been happy.  Everybody seems to contradict everybody else.  I've even come across articles that contradict themselves.

So now I turn to you good people for advice.  Will the 73 Runner brakes go on mine?   If not, I need a list of parts to get for the project.  Keep in mind I've never done this before.  Although my buddy's a mechanic, I don't think he's done this either.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
