M - Mound Road engine plant
318 - 318-cid
R - Regular fuel
2642 - date of assembly
2629.- 2,649th engine built thst day

The 2642 should be the date the engine was assenbled, but it should
start with a 5

On the passenger side of the engine, toward the rear just above the
oil pan there should 1 letter and seven digits stamped into the block.
