Actually, you
can.
I did it with this a '64 Fury wagon I had.
The way I did it was to
use the Green non-adjustable axle bearings. I also used the original backing
plates and shoes and a set of later drums.

No you
can't put a flanged axeles in a tapered axle housing. If you could I
would have done it by now. That's it, I'm putting in a Ford Explorer
axel in my car. I have seen one with it, I'm not sure why he did it but
he did.
