Re: Broken bolt blues

Just got in from the garage.  The stud extractor I got wouldn't take a good bite, and tho it took a decent amount of torque, kept slipping off.  Got my buddy over with his welder, and tried the welded nut routine, just snapped the bolt off behind the weld.  Just enough left to try another time.  It's welded on, but I'm going to bring his torch over and try heating around the block before the next (and last) try.  After that, I guess it's bring out the drill.
Well, atleast I have experience in that area !!
Thanks for the help guys.

If you have 3/8 of an inch above the block, place a nut on it that is a little larger than the bolt  and use a mig welder to weld it on. Usually the heat from welding the nut to the bolt will help release the stuck bolt, too. Then just back it out like normal. Kevin.

They are a little different than the ones I got from Snapon but they look very close, and mine work to just about flush.  See if you can flag down a Snapon, Mac tool man or find a local tool vender to look at one in person.

Thanks for the advice guys.  The one I have left in the block to get out gives only about 3/8's of an inch length to work with.  Will those  pullers work with only that small amount to grip Herb ?

Heat up the block around the bolt and use one of these the bolt will come right out.  Use anti-seize on the threads going back in.  Have used them on some really shakie GM exhaust studs with great success!
