Last Friday Dodger came over and helped me figure out what my true compression ratio was before the head and cam changes and what it will be after I put it all back together with the new stuff. It's very interesting that with the old 78cc heads and the Fel-pro gaskets my real compression ratio was only 8.64/1 !!! Pretty amazing I was running as well as I was at the time. This is in part due to the fact that I unknowingly gave some wrong info to the piston maker and used the bigger composite gasket which caused my actual ratio to be almost a point lower than was intended.
I talked with Gary Pavlovich tonight and bless his pea picking heart he's sending me some new
steel gaskets. Dodger convinced me that
the steel gaskets should be fine as they were used originally on our poly's and the block machining was not pristine by any account. This along with the new 73cc heads will raise my compression ratio to 9.66/1 Much better!
My headers should be back this week so it won't be long before 'ol LeRoar gets put back together. Probably just in time for a big snow storm I will have to use the stock head bolts or pull the engine to use a stud kit. I don't think the stud kit will be in my best interest as I'd have to be pulling the engine every time I wanted to take off the heads. Now I know I probably
won't be doing that again any time soon but you never know.
So I guess the fun will begin pretty soon.
