That is correct,,the canister type works best with a Needle meter Gage and the large onion type work with a dash warning light. We think the 440  came out of a 1973 Plymouth Fury III,,, Ex/State Police car.

It is not required, my only thoughts are that it was set up as some sort of shut down if oil pressure got to low,,,,,
