This happens when the plug get too hot. At some point and time you could open the hood of that car and seen the plug(s) glowing bright red. I've seen it when people used those plug extenders so they plug would not oil foul. My friend had a Chevy Vega that would do that on the number 3 cyl. We never did figure out why, we just had to replace that plug every 2 months or so. She drove that car for 5 years like that.
