Re: off topic question

I've seen that over the years - they say the trucks are designed in a way that a tonneau cover doesn't improve mileage.  I've had two covers on my '01 Ram 2500.  The first one was a hard fiberglass lid type.  What I liked about it was it made the box 100% weather tight and lockable.  What I didn't like about it was how heavy and limiting it was.  While technically removable, it really wasn't without a couple of strong helpers.  I also didn't like how it looked - it went over the rails and hid the body lines of the truck.  But it did hold up very well for the 9 years I had it on the truck.

After looking for a couple of years, I bought a BakFlip folding cover in 2009.  http://www.bakfliptonneaucover.com/  I like that it's much more versitile than the other one I had.  And it's easily removeable altogether by myself since it's aluminum.  It looks great, too - fits down inside the bed rails.  I have a Poplock on my tailgate, so things are fairly secure.  It does allow a bit of moisture in when it rains, but not too bad.  I'm glad I went with it.  I know you may be referring to a soft cover, but I never really considered those - I wanted something more secure.

Hey Jimmy,

Putting a cover on your box to save gas is myth.  They proved it to be wrong on the TV show Myth busters.  There was also another show, which I can't remember, that proved the same thing.  This second show got more sciencey and boring than myth busters, but came to the same conclusion.

Does anybody use a toneau cover on thier truck? I am thinking of buying one as a way to improve gas mileage. I have heard as much as 2-3 mpg increase. Anybody have any personal experience with this? Thanks.
