Re: newer 727 on a 64 dodge.440 doesn fit, help

If memory serves me correctly there is both a short and long shaft 727. I went thru this when replacing trans in my 77 D-100 where nothing was "factory" and I bought a 72 C-body parts donor car. I re-drilled holes to relocate cross member and had lenth of driveshaft altered too. Could be your issue too.

My first thoughts are, the newerr 727 nust be from a small block or
the bell housing would not bolt up. So, maybe your transmission rear
mount is the wrong crossmember, or installed 180 degree wrong?  I
don't know if the C body tranny which you could have, is longer
tailshaft than your B body. I'm sure someone else here will have the
right answere..........................................MO
