You know, ive always wondered about that hose colapsing or not. I have had both kinds in my old car and never had an issue either way. My Grandpa used to tell me it didnt really matter unless you had an issue with it. Ive had metal spring in both upper and lower hosed before, in fact i just took the rust broken bits out of my hoses a few months ago, hose was still good, so i left it till the rebuild.
I know they can colapse, but ice can form in my carb too, does not mean it will.
